Acting Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students of Mount Carmel,

As this week’s edition of the College Newsletter is being distributed, we are approaching the conclusion of a wonderful day of celebrations for Champagnat Day. We commenced this morning with a range of “Give Back Activities”  where students had the opportunity to engage in a range of social justice and outreach initiatives, before coming together as a College community to celebrate the Eucharist and present our 2019 Champagnat Day Awards. The afternoon has been spent enjoying a wide array of stalls and activities before a talent showcase drew a conclusion to our celebrations for this year.

I particularly wish to thank the many parents who were in attendance for our Mass earlier this morning and offer my sincere congratulations to every student that was acknowledged in the 2019 Champagnat Day Awards Ceremony, whose names appear below. As part of these acknowledgments, I also congratulate those staff members who were acknowledged for meeting significant milestones in terms of their years of service to Marist education. These included Mrs Ridley, Mrs Owen-Guarirapa and Mr Harrison who were each acknowledged for 10 years of service. Mrs Govender for 20 years of service, and Mrs Love, who was acknowledged for 25 years of service in Marist schools.

I also thank the many mothers, grandmothers and aunts who were able to join us on Monday for our belated Mothers Day Liturgy and afternoon tea. This was yet another wonderful opportunity to welcome these special guests to the College and I particularly acknowledge the work of Mrs Meharg, Mrs Trimarchi, Mrs Marks, Mr Rees and all the students who assisted in the liturgy and hospitality that followed.

As we continue this particularly busy time of the year, I would like to remind parents of two significant events that we have coming up over the next week. Our June Parents and Friends (P & F) meeting will be held this coming Tuesday 11 June at 7pm in I3. As always, all parents are invited to join us for a light supper and to contribute to this meeting. As many would be aware, we endeavour to invite a guest presenter to each of our gatherings and next week will see our College English Coordinator and Literacy Instructional Coach, Ms Clare Murphy, presenting on her role and vision for the English Department and literacy at the College.

I also remind all students and parents that next Friday 14 June is the annual Staff Spirituality Day. All teaching and support staff will be gathering together offsite to further explore our Marist spirituality and, as such, the College will be closed for the day and parents are asked to make alternative supervision arrangements where appropriate.

Finally this week, I would once again ask our College community to continue to keep our Principal Mr Lo Cascio in your prayers as he recovers from surgery. I know that I speak on behalf of all teachers, parents and students as I wish him a speedy recovery.

Mr David Cloran

Acting Principal
