AFL for Sport
Throughout Term 2, YR 7 Mackillop students have enthusiastically been participating in an AFL skills course for their Tuesday sporting activity. Each week, over forty students arrive prepared to learn new skills related to this iconic Australian sport. Throughout this time, the students learn the core rules of the game, how to kick the football, hand pass to their teammates and score goals. They even have the chance to engage in football matches against each other.
Three qualified instructors from AFL NSW lead the YR 7’s each week. Their engaging and approachable manner keep the students actively involved at all times. The variety of drills and games played ensure that the children are always smiling as they exert their energy.
Since the beginning of the term, the students have grown in confidence as they have continued to master the skills of AFL.
“It is very fun because you can score goals and participate with your friends.” Christian Traboulsieh
“The instructors are very friendly and experienced.” Elijah Lackner
“I have enjoyed AFL this term as it is a lot of fun.” Kobe Bagadiong
Communication regarding Sport
Students are reminded to continue checking the Compass dashboard for key information relating to sport during 2022. Key information will also be communicated to parents via the College Newsletter and notes sent home. Information will also be provided to staff who will communicate key messages with students during Pastoral Care in the morning.
We would love to hear if your child or someone part of our school community, past or present, experiences any sporting success. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any sporting success so we can recognise those achievements in our community.
