This week the first Advent candle was lit.

This candle is called the Hope or the Prophecy Candle. 

It is in remembrance of the prophets, especially Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. 

It represents the expectation felt in anticipation of the coming Messiah.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR A

First Reading: Is 2:1-5 - All nations shall stream to the mountain of the Lord.

Second Reading: Rom 13:11-14 - Live honourably, the day of the Lord is near.

Gospel: Mt 24:37-44 - The Lord is coming when we least expect.
