Diocesan Events - Term 2

DIOCESAN EVENTS – TERM 2

Mount Carmel is a part of the Diocese of Wollongong so we compete in Diocesan Sporting events throughout the college year. At these events / carnivals, schools from the Diocese of Wollongong come together to compete for points towards the Vince Villa Trophy that is awarded to the Champion School at the end of the college year. Mount Carmel historically performs well at these Diocesan events and last year finished a close 3rd place overall in the Vince Villa Trophy.

NSWCCC Football Knockout - Wednesday 12 June 2019

On Wednesday this week Mr King took the Years 7-10 MCCC Football team down to the NSWCCC Football Knockout carnival at Balgownie. The team has been preparing for this carnival since the beginning of the term - attending regular training sessions of a morning with their coach Mr King.

The boys were up against a strong Edmund Rice team first up. The match was a nail-biter with our boys missing a few opportunities early in the match. At the conclusion of the game the score was locked at 0-0 and golden goal time began. The boys, and Mr King, really didn’t want it to come to penalties. In the last minute of golden goal time, William Churchin (Yr 10) slotted a lovely goal earning the team a 1-0 victory - but despite the celebrations the boys then needed to back up for a second knockout game against John Therry.

The boys went onto the field with confidence and determination. They played hard for the entire match. Bailey Smith (Yr 8) was impressive on the field. The score ended up 5-1 with Samuel Sisounon (Yr 10) getting a hat trick!

Congratulations boys and Mr King. We look forward to hearing how you progress at the quarter final event in July.
