College Sport

Around the Grounds
Recreational Sport and MISA trials commenced this week with fierce competition for sports in our representative teams. Teams have been selected which have been posted up on the sports notice board. Congratulations to all who were successful in their trials and good luck in round one. Students are reminded that we have our upcoming competitors only swimming carnival in Week 4. Good luck to all out MISA teams going into round one this week.
Monique Yakovljevic - YR 12: Cross Crountry
Monique has been invited to compete in the 2023 Cross Country Athletic Tour America. Only students in the top 50 results for State Cross Country are invited to attend this wonderful event being hosted in the United States. While this is a big commitment we hope to see Monique representing Australia and MCCC in the coming months. Well done.
DIOCESAN TENNIS TEAMS EVENT
8 February 2023 Beaton Park
Girl's Team | Boy's Team |
Angelique Zeeman | Jarrod Berry |
Klara Grbavac | Lucas Faundez |
Esha Jadhav | Adrian Rivadeneira |
Gloria Rivadeneira Pino | Ryan Pullicino |
This year’s Diocesan Tennis Carnival was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their skills, compete against talented players in the diocese and gain valuable match experience.
The girls were up against John Therry Catholic College in the first round and were unstoppable. The doubles matches were played first and both sets were won without dropping a game, 6-0 and 6-0. Their singles matches were just as convincing as the girls continued their fine form, winning the next four sets 6-0, eliminating John Therry and moving into the next round.
The boys had a much tougher first round match against St Benedict’s Catholic College. Jarrod and Lucas started strongly and won their doubles match 6-2. Adrian and Ryan played well but lost their set 6-1. The singles matches were competitive with both schools winning two sets each. Mount Carmel won the first set 6-0 but then lost the next two sets 6-1, 6-1. For Mount Carmel to get through to the next round, Lucas needed to win his set 6-0, which he did!

Year 7 students Angelique and Klara showed a lot of composure as they competed against a very experienced St Mary’s team in the next round. Both girls had solid groundstrokes and showed a lot of positive energy on court. Gloria and Esha also played consistent tennis but unfortunately, St Mary’s was too strong on the day.
The boys team also had a very tough second round against last year’s winning team Edmund Rice. They fought hard and handled the pressure well, returning tough serves and chasing down balls to stay in the rallies. There was a lot of talent on display, but it was not enough to get through to the next round.
Seven of our students who represented Mount Carmel at this year’s diocesan tennis event had never competed at this level. They are to be congratulated on their performance and the incredible sportsmanship displayed throughout the day. It was a great day of competition and a valuable experience for our upcoming tennis players at Mount Carmel.
