Acting Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students of Mount Carmel,

As some may be aware, this past Sunday saw the celebration of the Solemnity of the most Holy Trinity which falls annually on the Sunday following Pentecost, and also marks the first Sunday of Ordinary time on the liturgical calendar. As was the case in previous weeks, the Gospel reading from this week is taken from the last supper discourse and tells of Jesus preparing his disciples for the coming of the Holy Spirit which, to this day, continues to reveal the mystery of the Trinity to us, and acts as a guide for both ourselves and for the future of the Church.

As we enter into the final two weeks of Semester One, I take the opportunity to remind parents of a number of significant events that are taking place over the coming fortnight. This coming Wednesday evening (26 June) sees our Year 11 2020 Information Evening taking place in the Champagnat Centre. This event marks the commencement of our Year 10 students HSC subject selection process as they embark on a significant discernment process in preparing for their patterns of senior study. I stress the importance of attendance by all students and at least one parent/carer so that decisions that are made in the near future are done so with a shared understanding of the most accurate information. The evening will get underway at 7pm, or for those interested in a VET or TVET subject, a special presentation will commence slightly earlier at 6pm in the College library.

I also remind parents and students that our annual College Photo Day will be held next Thursday. While all students will be having their photo taken on this occasion, should families wish to purchase photograph packages, they are to complete their details on the personalised photo envelopes that were recently distributed to all students and hand them directly to the photographer on the day.

The final major event for this semester is our Parent/Teacher/Student Interview sessions that will take place on Monday, Thursday and Friday of Week 10. Semester One reports will be available for collection at any one of these sessions and I encourage all parents to avail themselves of this opportunity to collect feedback from your son/daughters teachers as a means of reflecting on the past semester and setting goals for improvement in readiness for the remainder of the year. Bookings can now be made directly through the Compass parent portal.

Finally this week, it is with a sense of sadness that today we bid farewell to our current Year 11 Coordinator Mr Rocco Badolato who, as many of you would know, will be commencing a new role next week in the Sydney Archdiocese after three and a half years of dedicated service to the students, and their families, here at Mount Carmel. I take this opportunity to publicly thank Rocco for the genuine care, support and commitment that he has brought to the role during his time here at the College and wish him all the best as he begins this new chapter beyond Mount Carmel.

Mr David Cloran
