College Sport
Around the Grounds
Huge week of sport throughout Week 9 with MISA finals and multiple Diocean selection trials occurring. Thankfully both our MISA Boys Volleyball and Girls Basketball teams came out winners in their grand finals. Well done to the students and their coaches. As we look ahead we have our annual cross country carnival on Thursday. This is a whole school carnival and participation is highly encouraged. The day consists of not only our running event but also novelty games, inflatable courses and cheering competitions. Students are to wear sports uniforms and bring their own food for the day as the canteen will be closed. Students are encouraged to stay informed by checking Compass for any updates regarding sports.
Below are the sports being offered in Term 2. Students are encouraged to sign up via the google form sent on Compass.

10-12 Girls Basketball |
29-39 Win Vs St Pat’s MISA CHAMPIONS |
Maria De Lima Goncalves Fernandes Da Mota |
A great win by our Senior Girls Basketball team. St Pat’s fought to stay in the game however the MCCC composure, skill and perseverance really paid off. It is such a privilege to work with a team that is so respectful in every way. Winning MISA is such a great accomplishment but these girls are winners in so much more than just basketball. Thank you! |
10-12 Boys Oz Tag |
7-6 Win Vs MAS Third Place |
De Angelo Finau |
A great results for the boys who had a hard season. Thanks to all the year 12 boys who have now played their last MISA oz tag games. Their service to MCCC has not gone unnoticed. Well done |
10-12 Girls Oz Tag |
5-4 win Vs JTCC Third Place |
Gemma Olling |
Excellent win by the girls today in their final match against John Therry, resulting in third place overall. A big shout out to Gemma for her hat-trick! Well done girls! |
7-9 Girls Hockey |
1-0 win Vs MAG Third Place |
Brianna Bowell |
A game won on the back of tireless defence. Magdalene struggled to get a single pass through our line and most break aways were quickly rounded up by impeccable cover defence. The girls played an expansive attacking game with plenty of chances made and should have walked away with a few more to their name. The team has been incredibly receptive to Coaching throughout the term and as a playing group their skills have improved vastly, which will hopefully translate into our Dio hockey team later in the year. |
7-9 Boys Softball |
3-1 loss vs MAG Second Place |
Parker Cameron |
A disappointing loss given the effort demonstrated by the boys. We started off with a strong first innings, almost scoring some quick runs, however, some silly errors by running off bases early left us exposed to the other team. We conceded 3 runs in the 1st innings and attempted to claw our way back in our second innings, scraping back 1 run but unfortunately wasn’t quite enough. The team should be really proud of their achievements in making it to the Grand Final. |
7-9 Boys Volleyball |
Win 2-0 VS JTCC MISA CHAMPIONS |
Sebastian Ratajczak |
Excellent win by the boys today against traditional rivals John Therry to retain the boys trophy for a second year. The team played solidly to come from behind to win the first set carrying that momentum into the second in a close fought match up. However, MCCC proved too strong for John Therry to take the win. Congratulations boys! |
7-9 Girls Volleyball |
Loss 2-1 MISA Runner up |
Whole Team |
The girls played with so much heart and soul, but unfortunately had their first loss of the season against St Pats in todays finals. The first set was neck and neck, with MCCC up as we went into set point. After a controversial call, St Pats won the set. This fired the girls up, and they played with so much grit and determination, easily taking the win in the second set. Both teams played the third set in a way deserving of the grand final trophy, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be for MCCC. The Mount Carmel girls walked away with grace and a positive attitude, reflecting on years past, and this being their best season yet. They are looking forward to next year! We would like to congratulate St Pats on their win. |
