As you would be aware, earlier this week, our Graduating Class of 2023 commenced their most significant assessment period to date - their Trial HSC Examinations. I take the opportunity to sincerely commend these students on the way that they have approached the preparation and execution of these exams. As daunting as a three-hour examination may seem, the cohort have demonstrated a clear sense of purpose, determination and maturity over these past few days which will place them well for the week ahead and, in the process, in readiness for the HSC Exams in just a few months’ time.

This time of the year also sees a range of events and activities involving our Year 11 students as they undertake the transition from being Preliminary students to the next group of school leaders. This weekend, a group of our Year 11 Youth Ministry Leaders are participating in the Marist Forum at Mittagong. This program is coordinated by the Marist Youth Ministry team and is a gathering of students from Marist schools across NSW and the ACT. Students will hear from guest speakers, take part in a variety of fun and creative activities that aim to develop a deeper sense of our Marist identity as well as creating contemplative spaces to personally explore the notion of living a meaningful and purposeful Catholic life.

On Friday next week and the following Monday, all Year 11 students will participate in the Mount Carmel Leadership Program which takes place both on site at the College and at Teen Ranch in Cobbitty. At the conclusion of this program, students will have the opportunity to vote for the Student Representative Council for 2024 which itself is a significant opportunity to ensure that student voice continues to play a key role in all we do at Mount Carmel.

I thank all students for their involvement and cooperation in these activities and the staff who have organised and assisted in the preparation and planning for these significant events. This time of the year again highlights the combination of Learning, Wellbeing and Spiritual components of a Mount Carmel education. As always, should you have any questions or suggestions about how we can continue to support your son or daughter, please contact their son or daughters Pastrial Advisor, Year Coordinator or the Front Office staff.
