Science Faculty
Greetings to all science enthusiasts and curious minds ! We hope you had a fantastic break and are all set for an exciting Term 3! Here are some of the highlights from Term 2 before diving into the upcoming adventures that await us in the Sciences this term.
Year 7's Wild Expedition to Western Sydney Zoo
Year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable journey to the Western Sydney Zoo in Week 9, Term 2. They delved into the captivating world of animal classification and adaptations. The students had a wonderful learning experience, observing diverse animal species up close and understanding how they have adapted to their unique environments. At the zoo, some courageous students encountered a python up close, which allowed them to witness firsthand the fascinating behaviour and adaptations of these slithering reptiles. It was an extraordinary experience that left everyone awe-inspired and more appreciative of the wonders of the natural world.
Year 10 ‘Fizzics’ Incursion
Year 10 students had a blast during their ‘fizzics’ incursion last term, diving deep into the fascinating world of chemistry. This interactive session allowed them to explore chemical reactions, bonding, and various properties of elements. This immersive experience undoubtedly ignited a passion for chemistry among our young year 10 scientists.
Year 11 Investigating Science
Year 11 Investigating Science students are currently exploring the effectiveness of science models to enhance their learning and understanding of scientific concepts. They took on the challenge of building 3D physical replicas of an atom, unravelling the complexities of atomic structure in a tangible and visually captivating way. This project demonstrated their dedication to scientific inquiry and innovation.
Science Week 2023
The highlight of Term 3 is undoubtedly the much anticipated Science Week, scheduled to take place during week 7. The school theme for National Science Week in 2023 is Innovation: Powering Future Industries. The theme incorporates the advancement in technology in all industries, especially using artificial intelligence. Science Week is a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in stimulating scientific activities. To make Science Week more thrilling, we have planned exciting science challenges for each year group. Students will have the opportunity to form teams and participate in these challenges, which will test their scientific knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills. To register your teams for the Science Week challenges, stay tuned for further details and announcements from your science teachers. Get ready to showcase your passion for science and collaborate with your fellow classmates to make this event a resounding success.
