Around the Grounds
Big week of MISA sport this week with multiple teams playing for Grand Final positions. Congratulations to our 9/10 MISA girls' Netball team, 10/12 Girls Softball team, 7/9 girls' Soccer team, 9/10 boys Soccer team and the under 15s Rugby League team. Good luck to all teams on Tuesday who will be fighting for silverware and contributing to our overall MISA points to keep us in the lead to retain the Championship Trophy for 2023.
We have an exciting week in Week 8 with a Staff vs Year 12 competition scheduled. This kicks off on Monday with the year 12 Soccer team taking on the staff at recess. This will be followed up with Ultimate Frisbee and Basketball on Wednesday and Friday. This is a great way to farewell our year 12 cohort who have given so much to school through their own representation in MISA, Diocesan and NSWCCC sporting events.
SPORT | RESULT | MVP | Short Report |
Softball 10-12 Girls Mr Withnall GRAND FINALIST |
VS SBCC Win 7-5 |
Sienna Pavoncelli Rhianna Gascoine |
A very tense game this week. Truly palpable. A strong batting performance in both innings meant it came down to how well we could handle the pressure in the field. A few key position changes with Sienna taking up pitching relieving Rhianna and putting her at 3rd base, the perfect spot to take the final out whilst copping a tough blow in the play. The team truly has come a long way over the last 7 weeks and now play in the grand final against St Patrick's, the nemesis from round one. We'll be out for victory next week with a thirst unrivalled. |
Netball 7-8 Girls Ms Jefferys |
5th Place Pay off VS JTCC Loss 18-4 |
Not an ideal result for our final game of the season, however, the girls got out there and had some fun on the court. A special mention to Emma who showed true sportsmanship by cheering on the team from the sidelines and demonstrating flexibility by trying new positions.
Netball 9-10 Girls Mrs Armour GRAND FINALIST |
Semi Final VS SPT Win 33-28 |
We were on edge the entire game, maintaining just a slight lead at the end of each quarter. Excitedly, we held off St Pats and were able to secure our place in the Grand Final next week! Watch out Magdalene, we are determined to hold onto our title as Premiers for 2023.
Indoor Cricket 10-12 Boys Mr O’Connell |
Round 6 VS MAS Loss 144-0 |
Abdul Khan | It was a difficult day at the office for the year 10-12 Boys MISA Indoor Cricket team. Winning the toss and electing to bat, the boys had some difficulty in scoring any runs against a very strong Macarthur Anglican bowling attack. Unfortunately the boys weren’t able to capitalise on a number of opportunities which resulted in a total score of zero runs. The boys bowled well but the opposition was just too strong and scored a solid total of 144 runs. |
Soccer 7-9 Girls Miss Heath GRAND FINALIST |
Semi Final VS STP Win 3-1 |
Charlee Yule |
Girls came out with a bang and dominated possession, shots and chances created. The dominance was rewarded with a great performance ending with a 3-1 win. Congratulations on making the grand final. One more win to go! |
Soccer 7-8 Boys Mr King |
Semi Final VS THAC Loss 3-1 |
Tennyson King | An unlucky result for the boys who fought to the very end. Started the game under pressure with THAC having solid ball management throughout the first 10 mins. The boys fought hard and managed to work their way into the game but conceded on the run of play twice to 2 balls in behind and the pace of their stricker was just too much. Going into the second half MCCC scored early to set up an intense final 15 minutes. Another error at the back was tucked away and the game was done and dusted. Glimpses of what could have been. Now onto the 3rd place play off. |
Soccer 9-10 Boys Mr Berkeley GRAND FINALIST |
Semi Final VS MAG Win 2-1 |
Anthony Peric | Wow! What a performance. Tactically the boys did exactly as they were instructed. First half was an absolute dominant performance with a few shuffles in the starting line up. After a sketchy start, the boys bounced back strongly. The first goal came after an excellent follow up from a keeper fumble, and a brilliantly worked second goal after Anthony Peric sprinted 60m to win possession high up on the pitch. Second half we went into defence mode and managed the game right up until the final whistle. After conceding a goal, there were one or two other occasions that had our hearts in our mouths, but the boys finished off strong. Special mention to Antohlny Peric for a goal and an assist. Into the finals we go! |
AFL 10-12 Girls Mrs Abra
|
Semi Final VS THAC Loss 15-8 |
The Whole Team | A close game but the girls couldn't get the job done. Being favourites in this game the girls struggled to get the ball forward. This hurt them with THAC jumping ahead and holding onto the lead. A great effort. Onto the third place play off |
AFL 10-12 Boys Mr Kawa |
Semi Final VS JTCC Loss 39-17 |
Michael Bzdega | What a great effort from all the boys to put up a contest with the undefeated JTCC. Each player should be extremely proud of their efforts as they put JTCC to the test and asked many questions which needed answering during the match. Congratulations to all players involved and all should be extremely proud of their efforts. |
