DIOCESAN EVENTS – TERM 2
Mount Carmel is a part of the Diocese of Wollongong so we compete in Diocesan Sporting events throughout the college year. At these events / carnivals, schools from the Diocese of Wollongong come together to compete for points towards the Vince Villa Trophy that is awarded to the Champion School at the end of the college year. Mount Carmel historically performs well at these Diocesan events and last year finished a close 3rd place overall in the Vince Villa Trophy.

NSWCCC Basketball Knockout Carnival - Thursday 20 June 2019
MCCC has some exceptionally passionate and talented basketballers amongst the student body. On Thursday this week Mr Harpley and Mrs Abra took a skilful Year 7-8 Boys Basketball team down to compete in the CCC Basketball Knockout carnival. This carnival is held to determine the strongest basketball teams in the Wollongong Diocese to then send to the NSWCCC Basketball Tournament in October this year. It is always a challenging carnival with only 4 teams offered a place to compete - usually the strongest teams in each age group.
The MCCC team consisting of Will Radman, Kynan Summers, Adam Prasad, Simun Krpez, Wilson Asuit, Brayden Greer and Michael Bzdega played exceptionally well in each of their two matches. Their first game was up against Edmund Rice. The MCCC boys won 80-10 - but the challenge then was to keep a cool head when progressing into the match against our local John Therry Catholic High School. The boys played with discipline and skill, ensuring that they took on Mr Harpley’s constructive criticism in the breaks. The referees were strict and diligent and our students played to the rules. The boys came away with the win against John Therry 46-39 earning them the Wollongong spot at the NSWCCC Basketball Championships in October this year. Congratulations boys and Mr Harpley for your excellent effort and result on the day. A huge thank you to Mrs Abra for her help on the day and to Marcus Capili and Trae Murray for doing the bench. Good luck moving forward with your training and bring on October!
