At the College, there will be a College Liturgy and all students will receive ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross. The ashes, made from burned palm leaves from the previous year’s Palm Sunday, symbolise our mortality and the need for repentance.
At Mount Carmel, the Youth Ministry Leaders or Year Cooridinators will apply the ashes to the forehead saying, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return," or "Repent and believe in the Gospel."
Catholics are encouraged to reflect on their sins, seek forgiveness, and prepare spiritually for Easter. Many also begin Lenten practices such as fasting, giving up certain foods or habits, and doing acts of charity.
Ash Wednesday is a solemn and reflective day that reminds Catholics of their faith, humility, and commitment to spiritual growth.
