On Friday 31st of May Mount Carmel Catholic Catholic College hosted their annual Athletics Carnival at Campbelltown Athletics Stadium. The weather was perfect for a carnival - the sun was shining, the wind thankfully died down and the students were ready to show the College community what they had to offer on the track and in the field. 

The day started with our 1500m event - a challenging event that tests the cardiovascular endurance and race plans of our long distance runners. We had some phenomenal efforts early which really set the tone for the remainder of the carnival. 

The 100m sprint was our second track event and there were some fast times recorded on the day. Nathan Cann (Yr 12) led the pack in the 17+ years age group running the quickest time on the day. There were also some excellent times recorded from our year 7 students who impressed the College community in their first athletics carnival appearance. 

The field events were also exciting. The boys high jump event always brings a crowd and this year it was the 17+ age group who had people sitting on the edge of their seats. It was a competitive contest between Larry Kingsley (Yr 11), Dwayne Brunt (Yr 12), Nicholas Morabito (Yr 12) and Frank Fagatuai (Yr 12) with Larry winning the event. Tye Fepuleai (Yr 8) impressed again jumping a phenomenal 1.70m - well done Tye!

The relay events were again an exciting end to the day. The mighty Murray house dominated winning 4 of the 6 relay events! Congratulations! 

Athletics age champions are determined throughout the carnival. These champions are based on results throughout the day. When students compete in events they earn themselves points towards the age champion title. Congratulations to the following students who are the 2019 College Athletics Age Champions. 

Well done to each of these Age Champions. These students will be acknowledged at the end of year College sports awards. 

Our Diocesan Athletics Team has also been posted on the sports office window. Students are encouraged to check this list carefully. Notes will be issued in week 1 of term 3. The Diocesan Athletics Carnival is on Friday 16th August 2019 at Campbelltown Athletics Stadium. 

The overall champion house is also calculated from the points earned from individual student results. This year the Murray House were victorious as the 2019 Champion House with a total of 1809 points. Congratulations to the Murray House! The other house tallies are below:
