Acting Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students of Mount Carmel,
As the term, and semester draws to a close, I take the opportunity this week to thank our College community for the work and support that has gone into a busy and, on any measure, successful term. Recent weeks alone have seen us hold our P&F Debutante Ball, celebrate Champagnat Day, participate in our annual athletics carnival and, over the course of the past week, held our Semester One Parent/Teacher/Student Interview sessions. Most significantly, each one of these major events provided a genuine opportunity for parents and friends of the College to engage with their sons and/or daughters education. This partnership is of such importance to us and I sincerely thank all those who were able to be present for one, or all, of these events. I assure you that these opportunities will continue into Semester Two, commencing in Week One next term where we will once again gather as a College community on Friday 26 July at 10am in the Champagnat Centre for our 2019 Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast Day Mass (please be seated by 9:45am). As always, parents and friends are most welcome to join us for the Mass and a light morning tea that will follow.
As I mentioned, this past week has provided three opportunities for parents to collect their son/daughters Semester One report, meet with each of their teachers to discuss their progress to this point of the year, and develop a plan to approach the second half of 2019. I trust that these interview sessions were of benefit to both students and their parents and I sincerely hope that the feedback that was provided via both the report and interviews, provided ‘food for thought’ in planning for next term and beyond. I particularly encourage students to respond to feedback that was consistently delivered by a number of their teachers across a range of subjects.
Over the coming holiday period, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish will be celebrating their Feast Day by holding their Annual Parish Fiesta on Sunday 14 July. Bishop Brian Mascord will lead the celebration of the Eucharist from 10am, which will be followed by the Fiesta which will take place in the parish surrounds and includes a variety of music, games and entertainment featuring a number of Mount Carmel students. All are most welcome to attend and join the celebrations.
At the start of next term, we will welcome back Mr Andre Daniels to the College who will be joining our PDHPE department in place of Mr Rocco Badolato. Andre is familiar to many in our community having taught here previously, and we welcome him back until the end of the current school year. I also take the opportunity to formally welcome Mr Dean Clark to the College, who has joined our TAS department in a permanent capacity. Dean brings a wealth of experience to the role and I welcome him to the Mount Carmel community. As a result of these changes, I also congratulate Mr Kevin Harpley who has moved from his position as Year 8 Coordinator to that of Year 11 Coordinator, and Mrs Clarissa Pearce who has now commenced officially as our Year 8 Coordinator.
Wishing you all a very safe, enjoyable and peaceful break.
David Cloran
