College Sport at Mount Carmel

Below are some general policies that the College enforces in regards to sport.

Student sport groups on Compass: Students are asked to check their compass for their sport group allocation. This is now ‘locked in’ and unfortunately can not be changed as selections and changes are now closed. It is important that students attend the correct sport group to ensure that they are accounted for and supervised for the afternoon of sport. If they attend the incorrect group they will be marked as ‘absent’ from the group where they are supposed to be and this will affect their attendance record. Please make sure you are attending the correct group each week.

Also as mentioned at previous assemblies and meetings please ignore the large sport description on your compass page (according to this every student is in Fit HQ and this is an error) . Refer to the code below this description for your sport allocation. If you have any questions please see Mrs Pontin at the sports office.

Leave from venue notes: A reminder that if students wish to leave from a venue they need to supply the Sport Coordinator. Notes can be signed at the sports office before, and up until, recess on Tuesday. A sample note is included below.

Date

To Whom it May Concern,

I (parent / guardian name) give permission for my son / daughter (child’s name) to not return to the College at the conclusion of sport this afternoon.

Kind Regards,

(Parent / Guardian signature)

(Contact Number)

Any other notes on Tuesdays: If you are sick, injured or can’t participate in sport on a Tuesday you must have a signed note from your parent/guardian detailing the reason for non-participation. You must bring this note to Mrs Pontin (Sport Coordinator) during recess on Tuesday so an alternate plan can be arranged for you during sport time.

TUESDAY RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY NOTICES

If students do not participate in the MISA sport program they are involved in the college’s Tuesday Recreational Sport program. This program offers students the opportunity to be active in a variety of different sports / activities either at school or in the local community. Students in Year 7 rotate with their house group through 4 different activities (a different activity each term). All other grades have the opportunity to elect what sport program they would like to participate in each term. This choice gives students the responsibility to be active according to their own interests, likes and strengths.

All Tuesday Recreational Sport groups have now been finalised and added to the timetable and NO CHANGES CAN BE MADE - unfortunately students who did not take the time to complete their sport choices last year (Years 8-11) have been placed into an appropriate sport group for each term. Please check the relevant sports noticeboard and compass for your sport group in preparation for Week 2. As outlined in earlier editions of the newsletter there is a technical issue with compass and for some unknown reason all students sport is described as Sport: Fit HQ (or something else). Please ignore this description and refer to the code below this or check the sports noticeboards. If you have any questions please see Mrs Pontin or your Pastoral Adviser for clarification.

YEAR 8 BUSHWALKING GROUP

This term a group of Year 8 students have been participating in Bushwalking for their weekly sport. Each week they travel to the nearby Georges River reserve where they take in the serenity of the Australian bush whilst enjoying the fresh air and endorphins that the experience produces. The opportunity to listen to and see the wildlife whilst visiting many tracks that lead to the Georges River is truly a rewarding one appreciated by the students.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL TRAINING

This year our vision and motto for College sport is ‘MC Teamwork Makes the PB Dream Work’. To get one step closer to reaching our goal of improving our Diocesan carnival results we are offering students the opportunity to partake in carnival training during sport time on a Tuesday afternoon.

Students can sign up for Carnival Training outside the sports office. Staff members will take students through a range of training exercises and run an organised program to improve student cardiovascular endurance and fitness as well as discuss running technique, race plans and other important considerations for achieving good results on the cross country and athletics track. Please see the schedule below:

Term 3 - Athletics Training

Sign ups are now open outside the Sports Office for week 3.

** This training may be cancelled if we don’t have the numbers required for a training group. Please check the emailed schedule to see if this is going ahead.

MCCC COLLEGE SPORTING STARS

JADEN LEGASPI (YEAR 11) - CCC RUGBY UNION

On 29 and 30 June, eight (8) school association representative teams (GPS 1 & 2, CAS, ISA 1 & 2, AICES, CHS and CCC) attended the 'NSW Schools U16 Rugby Selection Trials' at UNSW David Phillips Field, Daceyville. Over 200 players played and fought hard to be selected into 43 players: NSW Schools 1 and NSW Schools 2.

Jaden, humble as always, informed me of his selection into the NSW Team 1. Jaden said “I feel very fortunate that I was selected in the NSW Schools 1”. Jaden represented NSW Team 1 on 20 & 21 July at the 'NSW U16 Invitational' which was held at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen.

The teams that attended the 'NSW U16 Invitational' were Sydney Juniors (SJRU), Country Juniors (CJRU) and the two x NSW Schools U16 teams (NSW Schools 1 and 2). The invitational is a selection tournament to choose the two x NSW U16 teams that will go on to contest the 'Australian U16 Nationals' (28th September - 5th October).

Congratulations Jaden for your recent selection and for always being such a humble, talented athlete who represents MCCC with great pride each and every time. Well done!

SIUOLO RICHTER & ISABELLA ASHCROFT (YEAR 7) - NETBALL

Congratulations to both Siulol Richter and Isabella Ashcroft (Yr 7) for their recent selection to represent INNSW in December this year. Both of these girls are great athletes and display impressive skills on the netball court in the defensive circle and mid court. Well done girls! We look forward to hearing how you play at the tournament later in the year.

JORDAN BRUNT (YEAR 11), JAYDEN BRUNT (YEAR 11) & FRANK FAGATUAI (YEAR 12) - BASKETBALL

Jayden Brunt (Year 11) and Frank Fagatuai (Year 12) have recently returned from Los Angeles where they played for the Sydney Basketball Institute in two basketball competitions. Jayden said that “it was a really tough competition because we were versing very athletic and physical teams but it helped me realise the parts of my game that need improvement and it has inspired me to fully apply myself to reach my goals”. I’m sure it was a great experience for the two boys and congratulate them on their involvement.

Jordan Brunt (Year 11) is also excelling in the sport of basketball travelling to New Caledonia later in the year to compete in the FIBA U17’s Basketball Championships. He will attend a pre-camp in Auckland before travelling over for his competition. We wish you the best of luck Jordan and look forward to hearing how you play. Well done.
