MBot Coding Competition

On Monday 12 August, 11 students travelled to the Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow to participate in the Diocesan finals of the Mbot Coding Competition. They had qualified after clean sweeping the competition in the Northern Zone. The students were participating in two areas of the competition.

“So You Think You Can Dance” had two components. Students were required to code an Mbot to dance in time with a song of their choice. This involved skills of not only engineering but design as the students needed to decorate not only their Mbots but a dance floor. The second part of this challenge involved a mystery song revealed on the evening which all teams had 30 minutes to prepare. The Mount Carmel teams demonstrated their creativity, collaboration and problem solving skills with determination and dominated the final, winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place. First place was won by Maria Tuyor, Elisha Sailago, Alisa Thephavong and Tahlia Bell.

“The Amazing Race” required students to code an Mbot to escape from a maze which was revealed to them on the evening using coding and sensors. Once again the Mount Carmel teams excelled and this was won by the team of Charmaine Marquinez, Laura Alivio, Giselle Byrne and Charlotte Vakayil.

Congratulations also to the team of Maria - Louise Baccay, Anora Sitthirajvongsa and Eseta Malaesilia who achieved minor placing on the evening.
