Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students of Mount Carmel,

Over the last two weeks I have been transitioning back into the role of Principal at Mount Carmel. This follows a medical recuperation that had extended much further than I had initially expected. The last time I wrote to you, I introduced the idea of us moving to a digital newsletter. Whilst this seems so long ago, the College has continued in its normal path and our students have been achieving great academic sporting and cultural goals. In many ways this highlights the message that I raised at the start of this year; that routines enable us to build habits that can ensure success. Much of what naturally occurs in the day to day running of the College contributes to the continued success of our students.

Of course this is a very simplistic explanation of our student’s achievements. There is a great deal of experience, expertise and dedication from the staff who each and every day support your children. At the MacKillop Mass which was held today, I reminded the students of one of St Mary of the Cross’ quotes:

“Do all you can with the means at your disposal and calmly leave the rest to God”.

This quote reminds us that each of us has an obligation to use our talents to the best of our ability and make a positive difference to the world around us. We also need to be aware however, that once we have done our best, we need to relax in the knowledge that the result is in God’s hands. As I suggested to our students, working as hard as they can but then not stressing once the assessment task is completed, is one way to live this advice. We might also apply this advice to health or friendship issues or any number of other concerns that we face each day.

Upon my return, I was proud and impressed by the way that I was welcomed back into the community. Both staff and students went out of their way to come up and say hello and ask me how I was. This simple gesture is a very powerful representation of the community and family feel around the College. Thank you to our staff and students for your continued contribution to ‘community’. As a final thank you, I would like to acknowledge the teaching and support staff for their ability to continue the workings of the College. A special thank you to the College Leadership team and especially Mr Cloran and Mr Huntly who stepped up for three weeks that turned into three months. Your professionalism and experience have been invaluable.

Congratulations to all our Year 12 students on the completion of your trial HSC exams. Good luck to our Yr 11s who will be starting their final Preliminary exams in a few weeks. On both counts, the hard work and routines help to contribute to success. Remember, to do all you can with the means at your disposal and calmly leave the rest to God.

Ite in Veritate

Mr Steve Lo Cascio
