This term Mount Carmel launched its first Minecraft based competition. This involved students using STEM based skills to recreate a scene from a book they had read. It required the use of both Literacy and Numeracy skills to complete the task.  Over 3 weeks students worked both at lunchtime, in the STEM room, and at home to design, calculate and create what the authors had envisioned that we as readers would see in their words. And this is the key to what do in STEM, we bring imagination to life.

There were some absolutely mind blowing recreations of a plethora of different literary works, ranging from George RR Martin’s A song of Fire and Ice,  Emily St John Mandel’s Station Eleven, Stephen King’s The Shining and Andy Griffiths Treehouse series.
