Diocesan Events Term 4

ANNUAL MCCC SPORTS AWARDS - Tuesday 10 December 2019 (Week 9)

The end of the college year is fast approaching and I want to take this opportunity to advertise the Annual MCCC Sports Awards that will be taking place on Tuesday 10 December 2019. These awards will allow the college community to celebrate the sporting success of our students across a variety of contexts; MISA teams and Most Valued Players, Recreational Sport participants, CCC teams, Diocesan medallion winners and College carnival Age Champions. There will be special sporting guests joining us for the afternoon as well as presentations to relive the ups and downs of the college carnivals and sport at MCCC this year.

Parents / guardians are welcome to join us for the afternoon. Students receiving major awards (Age Champions and CCC recognition) will be notified via mail in the coming weeks. All other award winners will be notified at school and asked to inform parents. We hope to see you there to celebrate the 2019 sporting successes.

** Please note that the 2019 Sportsperson of the Year for each Year level will be presented on the day of our Major Awards Ceremony in week 10.

Mount Carmel is a part of the Diocese of Wollongong so we compete in Diocesan Sporting events throughout the college year. At these events / carnivals, schools from the Diocese of Wollongong come together to compete for points towards the Vince Villa Trophy that is awarded to the Champion School at the end of the College year. Mount Carmel historically performs well at these Diocesan events and last year finished a close 3rd place overall in the Vince Villa Trophy.

Congratulations to Janita Leota-Brown (Year 7) who has gained selection into the South West Sydney Academy of Sports (SWSAS) 2020 Netball Program. In partnership with Netball NSW, the SWSAS Netball Program provides high performance training opportunities for talented young athletes in the areas of technical skills, education and personal development. The program is targeted towards pre-elite netballers with the key aim being to develop athletes to a level suitable for NSW selection. Janita will be amongst the youngest athletes in the program turning only 14 in a program of 14-16 year olds. Janita has had a highly successful 2020 sporting year and we look forward to seeing her continued success on the netball court.

Harrison Doris (Yr 8) - Softball

Congratulations to Harrison Doris (Year 8) who has gained selection into the Under 15’s Boys South West Sydney Academy of Sports (SWSAS) 2020 Softball squad. Harrison gained selection into this program by impressing selectors with his skill at 3rd base and his ‘power hitting’ in the batting line up. This program will give Harrison the opportunity to train with his squad to develop his softball skills in preparation for the Academy Games. This event brings together the best softballers from all of the different academies who play in a three day tournament showcasing their athleticism and skill. Congratulations again and good luck at the Academy Games.
