Diocesan Events Term 4
Mount Carmel is a part of the Diocese of Wollongong so we compete in Diocesan Sporting events throughout the college year. At these events / carnivals, schools from the Diocese of Wollongong come together to compete for points towards the Vince Villa Trophy that is awarded to the Champion School at the end of the College year. Mount Carmel historically performs well at these Diocesan events and last year finished a close 3rd place overall in the Vince Villa Trophy.
CDF Sports Awards Evening - Friday 15 November 2019
On Friday last week, seven Mount Carmel Catholic College students were congratulated on their 2019 sporting success at the 23rd Annual CDF Sports Awards. Each of our award winners received a Secondary Sports Council Medallion for their selection into a CCC or All Schools team this year. It was a great night that recognises the hard work, commitment and sacrifices that many of our Diocesan school students make in order to perform at their best in their chosen sport.
I would like to take the time to again congratulate the following students on receiving their Secondary Sports Council Medallion:
Blake Bolwell (Yr 7) - Cross Country
Connor Cameron (Yr 11) - Softball
Matthew Galvin (Yr 9) - Cross Country
Monique Jakovljevic (Yr 8) - Cross Country
Jaden Legaspi (Yr 11) - Rugby Union
Blake Waugh (Yr 9) - Cross Country
Jaimie-Louise Zaballero (Yr 12) - Softball
Thank you to our 2020 College Sport Captains Jayden Brunt and Marlou Mistula for their attendance on the evening and for reading athlete citations as part of the ceremony.
**These students will be acknowledged in front of our college community at our end of year sports awards in week 9.
On the evening they also announce the winner of the Vince Villa trophy for the Champion Secondary School. Vince Villa worked in Catholic Education as a Secondary Principal and Senior Secondary Consultant. His commitments and organisational skills, his sense of justice and his mischievous sense of humour reflected his great faith and zest for life. Vince was an integral part of the development of both New South Wales and Wollongong Secondary Catholic School Sport. He had a passion for sport and he provided solid pathways for all students in our Diocese.
This year MCCC finished 3rd overall in the race for the Vince Villa Trophy. An enormous effort by the students and staff at the college. Congratulations to all of those students who represented the college at a Diocesan event, whether it was as part of a team or to throw a single discus at the Athletics carnival - every contribution counts. Thank you to all of the teachers who coached and mentored teams throughout the year. Your help and work ethic is greatly appreciated and valued. Well done MCCC!

Summer Safety Tip
With the summer holidays fast approaching, there will be the inclusion of a ‘Summer Safety Tip’ in the newsletter each week. These tips will act as a reminder for our students and the wider community to look after themselves and their friends / family in the summer months.
