Diocesan Events - Term 1
DIOCESAN EVENTS – TERM 1
Mount Carmel is a part of the Diocese of Wollongong so we compete in Diocesan Sporting events throughout the college year. At these events / carnivals, schools from the Diocese of Wollongong come together to compete for points towards the Vince Villa Trophy that is awarded to the Champion School at the end of the college year. Mount Carmel historically performs well at these Diocesan events and last year finished a close 3rd place overall in the Vince Villa Trophy.
DIOCESAN GIRLS TOUCH FOOTBALL
As always the Diocesan Girls Touch Football tournament is a great day that displays the touch football talent across all of the Diocesan schools. Mount Carmel sent three teams down to Fairy Meadow to compete for the 2020 title.
All of the students were keen to hit the field. We arrived early, got changed into our MCCC strip and started to warm up. Despite the lack of preparation and training prior to the carnival, all of the students worked well together and played for each other on the field.
Our U13’s team coached by Miss Donnellan finished 5th overall. Our U15’s team coached by Mr Huntly finished 8th overall. Our Opens team coached by Mrs Pontin also finished 8th overall.
The day was a challenging one due to the extremely warm weather and tight draw. Games were shortened to 10 minutes to accommodate for the excessive heat and the carnival concluded a little earlier than first scheduled to ensure the students weren’t competing in the hottest part of the day. Thank you to both Miss Donnellan and Mr Huntly for coaching our teams on the day and for all of your work with trials. Congratulations and thank you to all of the girls for their constant cooperation despite the challenging conditions and for the great day of sport. Well done!

2020 Opens Softball Trials
Congratulations to Paula Zaballero (Yr 10) for gaining selection into the Opens Girls NSWCCC Softball team. Paula attended the NSWCCC Softball trials last week and proved her worth as part of the Opens Girls squad who will compete later this year. Paula is an extremely humble athlete who doesn’t like to advertise her success, however we love celebrating the successes of our athletes and again congratulate Paula on such an excellent achievement. Well done Paula and we look forward to hearing how you play at the upcoming CCC tournament.
I would also like to extend my congratulations to the other students who attended the trials; Harrison Doris (Year 9), Mikayla Magro (Year 9).
NSWCCC Triathlon - Team and Individual Events
The NSWCCC team and individual triathlon events are growing in popularity each and every year. This year MCCC entered one team; Blake Waugh, Matthew Galvin and Vann English (Year 10 - Intermediate event) who had one of the most successful performances to date.
Blake started the team off well finishing the swim by coming out the water first in the intermediate division. Vann then set the tone for a successful race with a solid leg on the bike. Matt then finished the event strong with a solid and consistent run. The boys finished 13/282 overall and 4/47 out of the CCC teams. An outstanding result! Well done boys.
We also had three students compete in the individual triathlon event. Blake Waugh (Year 10), Joel Skipper (eaYr 9) and Nathan Williams (Year 7) all had a successful morning in the water, on the bike and on the road. Blake finished 20/224 and 5/40 in the CCC competition. Joel finished 11/149 and 2/30 in the CCC entries. Nathan finished 80/146 overall and 14/30 in the CCC competition. Congratulations to all of the students for pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and for competing in a challenging event like the triathlon. As always, you did MCCC proud.
