Diocesan Events - Term 1

DIOCESAN EVENTS – TERM 1

Mount Carmel is a part of the Diocese of Wollongong so we compete in Diocesan Sporting events throughout the college year. At these events / carnivals, schools from the Diocese of Wollongong come together to compete for points towards the Vince Villa Trophy that is awarded to the Champion School at the end of the college year. Mount Carmel historically performs well at these Diocesan events and last year finished a close 3rd place overall in the Vince Villa Trophy.

DIOCESAN SWIMMING CARNIVAL - Friday 13 March

The sun was shining, the students were pumped and the Diocesan Swimming Carnival was given the all clear to go ahead at Corrimal Swimming Pool on Friday 13 March 2020. The MCCC swim team travelled down to Wollongong to be a part of another impressive display of athleticism, commitment and teamwork. Guided by their knowledgeable Team Manager, Mrs Moore, the students competed in every event on the day, swimming their absolute best and representing Mount Carmel with pride in the water.

The swimmers from all of the Diocesan schools at the carnival stepped it up a notch from last year, something that most didn’t think was going to be easy, by breaking 16 records on the day. How is it that these swimmers are getting faster every single year? It was impressive to witness their effortless stroke plough through the water in each event.

Mount Carmel had some exceptional individual results with a number of our students being recognised in the Age Champion categories. Congratulations to the following students:

Congratulations to each and every one of the students who attended the carnival and embodied what it means to be a Mount Carmel student. The competition is always extremely tough and despite this, our students backed up, got in every race, swam with pride and worked together as a team. I couldn’t be any more proud of them. Well done.

Thank you to Mrs Moore for her expertise on the day and to Mr Pilottis for also attending and assisting the students. Thank you to Mrs Asuit, who despite having Friday’s off, travelled down to spectate and cheer on the MC students and finally to all of our parent spectators who supported our kids in the water. Thank you.

Unfortunately the NSWCCC Swimming Championships have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. More information regarding this decision can be found on the csnsw.sport website.
