'Who We Are' Incursion

On Monday 9 March, David and Katie Kobler visited our College to run an incursion with the Year 8 cohort. The ‘Who We Are’ program divides the students by gender into two separate venues at the College. This allows the presenters to discuss pertinent concerns relevant to the specific gender. During the workshop, the students were engaged with exploring a range of topics which are relevant to their age and development. Some of the topics included looking at self-worth and respect as well as healthy relationships with their peers. The presenters shared factual information and data as well as personal anecdotes in a manner which engaged and educated the students. Pupils were also provided an opportunity to ask important questions within a safe and non-judgmental environment.

“At the Who We Are incursion it was a really good and fun opportunity to learn things about us as man or women. One of the things we focused on was the term "Man Up" and what this really meant. “After attending the incursion this morning, I learnt that I don't have to be a certain body shape, have a particular look, wear particular clothes and act in a certain way to fit in. I can be myself and I will find the right friends to make me happy at school. I also learnt that I have the right to say no to anything that someone asks me to do that I don't want to do or don't feel comfortable with and if I ask for help it won't only help me but it may help others in the same situation.” -Charlotte Carney, Year 8
