Dear parents, friends, staff and students,
“Seek the Lord while he is still to be found, call to him while he is still near” (Isaiah 55:6). As our Year 12 students come to the end of their time at Mount Carmel, some have spoken of the sadness of leaving our community, or of an anxiety about going forward into the unknown. Whilst this might be the experience of some, I would hope that all our graduands realise that they will take with them something more powerful and valuable than a graduation certificate. They have been supported and encouraged by a community built on the hope and love of Jesus Christ. This love will be available to support them throughout the rest of their lives so long as they choose to accept it. As I said at the graduation, for our students, the completion of the HSC is not an end, but it is a milestone. It recognises a move between one life phase and another and the beauty of our faith is that Jesus is always near as long as we wish to call Him.
This week we farewelled our HSC Graduating class of 2023. The week began with rehearsals on Monday followed by a farewell pizza and ice-cream afternoon on Tuesday. This was a very gentle way to lead into the final formalities on Wednesday which started with breakfast before school. The students were then joined by the rest of the community for a graduation Mass and cultural performance which was followed by the Induction of the new SRC. We welcomed about 180 parents and family members to these ceremonies and were able to then cheer the students out at recess. The final event was the Graduation ceremony evening which started with supper and ended with the presentation of major award winners.
These events were a fitting celebration and acknowledgement of the importance of our senior class to our community. The festivities were only possible with the hard work and support of many many staff members and student volunteers. From the organisation of the food and fun by the front office and TAS teaching and support staff, to the Mass, choir, Hospitality students, cultural dance performers, collation of awards and certificates and the support of teachers, groundsman and ancillary staff. The events were memorable for all the right reasons and the smiles on our graduands’ faces reflected the high regard that they have for their own efforts and for the support of family and school. I would like to thank each person who was involved and there are far too many to mention. Congratulations on a fantastic farewell and we look forward to continuing to support the students as they work toward their final exams.
During the week, the College took delivery of a new small vehicle to assist Mr Miranda (our groundsman). This was paid for by the Parents & Friends and will be a very useful asset to assist with the smooth running of the College. Thank you greatly to our P&F for your financial support and practical assistance.
Finally, I would like to wish all our families a safe and happy break where you get some time to stop and share time with each other. Students will return on Monday October 9 in summer uniform and will hopefully see some major progress on the new STEM building.
Ite in Veritate
Mr Steve Lo Cascio
As the term comes to a close, I take the opportunity to thank all members of our College community for their support throughout the past term. The past week in particular has seen all members of our student community embrace Year 12’s final few days of school and they are to be thanked wholeheartedly for the respect shown to our graduating class of 2023.
I remind the parents of students in Year 11 that today marks the end of the Preliminary Course and, consequently, the HSC course will begin early in Term 4. I congratulate Year 11 for their application and cooperation with the Preliminary examinations and thank all in the cohort who were involved in the Hospitality and Leadership events as part of Year 12’s graduation process.
Please be reminded that we return next term in our summer uniform and encourage students to familiarise themselves with the College uniform and grooming expectations which are laid out in the College diary. Your support in this area ensures that the focus for both teachers and students can remain on learning as the new term gets underway. Please also be aware of a couple of significant events due our first week back. These being:
- Year Seven Immunisations Wednesday October 11th
- HSC Exams commence Wednesday October 11th

The past week has been truly special as we bid farewell to our graduating class of 2023. Tuesday marked the last lessons and a culmination of 13 years of formal education for our graduating class. To ensure they concluded this journey in style, we organised a variety of activities and ceremonies. These included a delightful Pizza and Ice-cream picnic on Tuesday afternoon for Year 12 students and staff, a heartwarming cooked breakfast, and a whole school Farewell Mass on Wednesday morning, followed by the Graduation Ceremony later that evening.
We extend our gratitude to all our dedicated staff, Mrs Pearce and Mr Lozelle, the Hospitality staff and the Year 11 Hospitality students who played pivotal roles in organising and catering for these events over the past couple of days. A huge congratulations and thanks to Ms Abra and the Cultural Dance group for their heartfelt performance to farewell the 2023 cohort. Also, to our office and support staff for all the behind the scenes work that made the event a beautiful and memorable one for our students.
During both our Farewell Mass and Graduation Ceremony, our College Captains, Jasmyne and Austin, delivered impassioned speeches about the Mount Carmel Community. They eloquently acknowledged the significant roles played by families, peers, and staff throughout their six-year journey at Mount Carmel Catholic College. Alongside them, our Student Representative Council members and their fellow HSC classmates exhibited remarkable maturity and respect as they brought closure to their high school years. We congratulate Jasmyne and Austin for their outstanding presentations and thank them for exemplifying the values of Mount Carmel Catholic College as role models for our college.
On behalf of the dedicated Pastoral Care team, we extend our immense appreciation to all parents and carers for your unwavering support throughout this term. As we enter the break, we hope that all families find time to relax and rejuvenate, while our students seize the opportunity to recharge for the upcoming Term 4.

Growing good Men:
Father & Teenage Son Weekend Experience
20-22 October 2023 Cataract Scout Camp Appin
One of the most important influences in the lives of men is the relationship they had with their father or significant father figure. The encouragement and affirmation that this relationship could, and should, provide is a key ingredient for how young men view themselves and embrace their gifts as they take their place in the world.
Don’t miss this life-changing father and son weekend! Spots are limited to just 25 fathers with their sons aged between 12 and 16 years. This is a unique opportunity for dads and their sons to embark on a quest of discovery with Robert Falzon and the team from menALIVE.
As we approach the conclusion of Term 3 in 2023, it's a fitting moment to look back and celebrate the remarkable accomplishments and contributions that have enriched the world of sports within our esteemed institution. To our exceptional athletes at Mount Carmel, we want to convey our appreciation for your exemplary representation of our College with boundless pride and extraordinary talent. The commitment to sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience has been nothing short of inspirational, particularly considering the disruptions that sports have faced over the past few years. Throughout the course of the last two terms, our College has had the privilege of participating in a variety of prestigious events, including those organised by the Macarthur Independent Schools Association (MISA) and Diocesan competitions. At the conclusion of Term 3 we are still leading the MISA competition with a slender lead over our counterpart schools. Hopefully Term 4 helps us retain the trophy and championship school status.
In the true spirit of Mount Carmel, our students have not only excelled at an individual level but have also showcased the unity and camaraderie that define our college community. It is imperative to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated coaches and staff members who have generously invested countless hours in training, mentoring, and guiding our athletes. Their expertise, guidance, and unwavering support have been instrumental in the success of sports within our college.
As we return from the holiday break, we eagerly anticipate a new rotation of sports and the onset of another term of MISA sports. With hope in our hearts, we look forward to the continued flow of accolades and achievements, as Mount Carmel strives to maintain its dominance over other independent schools in the Macarthur region. We remind all our students to remain vigilant and stay updated by checking their emails for all pertinent information regarding sports activities and events for the remainder of the year.
Again a very busy term for sport with a lot of events occurring throughout the term. As always, students are encouraged to sign up and trial for representative teams.
